Hi, see below my contribution to the debate around the Greens, Zac and the Zionism question, which is copied from my comment on the Guardian piece after the Kings Cross by-election. I am still trying to learn how best to use my wordpress account but apparently I can send this out as emails as well as copy onto other social media sites.
Please send me replies from a progressive perspective
A promising future now looks perilous for election loser Zack Polanski. He sowed, now he reaps– John Harris Guardian article
the Guardian sticks to its liberal centrist perspective whenever socialism raises its head.
The reason there are 220, 000 members instead of pre Zac 65000 is because there are a large number of people, particularly those under 40 who want to see a Red Green force in UK politics. This means addressing not only the climate but also economic and social change through taxation of global corporates – banks, hedge funds, fossil fuels and privatised rip offs- to be spent on improved public services, health, housing and education. They also want to see robust support for the International Criminal Court and war crimes.
There is a sense of hope with Burnham that may not last after the budget and the reality of Burnham’s actual programme rather than his rhetoric, at which point the Greens in England will offer the progressive alternative that will be needed to keep Labour at least on the progressive side of politics.
It is true that Zac needs to have a professional, progressive and young support team around him to keep him from just lumbering in on social media and it falls on its MPs to step up and become more outspoken and combative, especially Hanna the plumber who comes across as intelligent, progressive, working class, female and as a very good communicator.
It is also true that There needs to be reflection on how the conference can be democratised so it reflects either through branch elected delegates or massive online participation to ensure that a small minority do not inflict ‘politically correct’ but politically impossible token slogans but rather return to the very clear support for Palestine and restrictions on arms and trade while Israel’s current leadership and strategy continues
In response to a comment saying criticism of Israel and Zionism is anti semitic
There can only be a free and democratic Israel when the government and army stop committing genocide and ethnic cleansing. Will there be any change after the election there,? I doubt it. Until there is, Israel will be rightly hated for its systematic war crimes and mass murder and land theft. A 2 state solution or single democratic entity with equal rights for Jews and Palestinians is the only way that justice, fairness can return and Israel supported once again
